Mom and Pop is a testament to my parents, my love for abstract art, and the love and feeling of nostalgia I get when I watch and analyze cartoons. I think the classic cartoons by Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera are absolutely legendary. (The Jetsons, Flintstones, Tom and Jerry, Scooby Doo, and basically every other Warner Brother Cartoon.). I see a lot of artists today make their own versions of these classic characters and although I can appreciate the work, I don’t like messing with the classics. I’m a boomer at heart for a 23 year old. I look to artists like George Condo and many of the Latin American contemporary/abstract artists like Julio Le Parc for inspiration, opposed to an artist like KAWS.
